WIPO, in partnership with the Government of Malawi, convened a two-day workshop at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe. The session reviewed and validated the Draft National Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy (2026–2031) and produced recommendations to guide its finalization.

WIPO Training, Mentoring and Matchmaking Program on Intellectual Property for Women Entrepreneurs from Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities from African Countries

Malawi is strengthening its intellectual property framework by reviewing and developing the National Intellectual Property Policy and Strategy (2026–2030). To guide this process, the Ministry of Justice and constitutional Affairs held a national consultation workshop on 27 April 2026 at Bingu wa Mutharika International Convention Centre, engaging diverse stakeholders from government, academia, industry, the creative sector, and development partners to shape the country’s IP future.

The Companies, Registrations and Intellectual Property Centre, in collaboration with the Reserve Bank of Malawi, conducted a campaign to encourage Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to access loans using their movable assets and to register those assets in the Personal Property Security Registry (PPSR) system. This e-service provides a simple and convenient way to manage security interests in movable property. Through the digital platform, lenders can quickly verify whether proposed collateral already carries a registered security interest and easily register their own interests to secure priority status under the Personal Property Security Act. The Guest of Honour at the event was Mr. MacDonald Mafuta Mwale, Governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi.
